FILE_001 : SKETCHBOOK

Class: Object

FILE_001_001:
A cassette tape from the office of Dr. James Woe. The distorted recording includes a conversation between Dr. Woe and his therapy patient Levi. The cassette tape is labeled with the patient’s full name and the date XX/XX/1983.

So, Levi, did you…bring something with you today?

It’s my art…but, it’s not finished.

That’s alright. Did you want to show me?

He wants me to show you.

Who does?

The Devil told me to bring it.

(At this point, Dr. Woe clearly lets out a sound of frustration. The tape then cuts for a moment, and then resumes with a separate conversation.)

Can you…tell me a bit about these drawings, Levi? What are these circles?

They are holes, Dr. Woe.

Alright. Then, tell me more about these holes. What inspired you to create these images?

He asked me to make them. They’re how he sees me. They’re how he sees us all.

(Tape cuts here.)

FILE_001_003:
Interview with the future Dr. Matilda Woe prior to her appointment as Head of Dante’s Research Sector.
This interview was conducted in the Woe family home on XX/XX/1998.

Please state your name for the record.

Matilda Woe.

Ms. Woe, please describe the object and its apparent anomalous qualities.

Certainly. This book once belonged to my father’s most deranged patient, Levi. He was a deeply troubled man who began attending mandatory sessions after killing one of his co-workers in a warehouse accident.

How did the book come into your father’s possession?

Levi must have brought it with him to a therapy session and left it behind in my father’s office. He came back later in the night and that’s when he shot my father.

And he did not take the book back?

No. He never even came in the house. My father was killed in the driveway and then Levi disappeared. I believe he was found dead a few days later.

Understood. When did you first learn of the book?

1994. I was sixteen. I was exploring my father’s office and found it. I opened it to a random page and that’s when its supernatural elements appeared to me.

Okay, what did you experience?

It was like looking through a window. The book is filled with bizarre circular drawings. When I looked closely enough, it was as if I could see miles of dead and dark landscapes within the pages. I could feel eyes watching me through the paper. I felt countless hands and fingers all over my body. It felt even more real than this conversation.

Were you alone at this time?

Yes. Somehow, I managed to pull myself out of whatever trance I was in. After that, I put the book away in a lockbox. I didn’t plan on opening it ever again. But…for months after…the questions just kept coming up. The visions I saw kept re-appearing in my mind. I had to talk to someone about it.

That’s when you sent the e-mail?

It was a bit of a shot in the dark. In the six months after my experience, I became obsessed with things like the occult, folklore, and all of that. Suddenly, I had created a big list of researchers, writers, and artists that I could share my story with.

Mr. Keen was included in that list?

Yes…actually, Oliver was the only one who answered me. He came to my house later that week and that’s when he was able to reconstruct the gate.

Can you, for the recording, please describe exactly what you believe the book is?

Of course. I think the answer is clear after Oliver seemed to confirm it. The book contains countless miniature gates, and also includes instructions for how to open a larger one more fit for a wall or floor, rather than a sheet of paper.

Understood. Thank you for your time, Ms. Woe. If you could meet again this week, we would like to continue working on the separate file which is more focused on the actual gates themselves.

Gladly. I am always available.
